Where Dead Wood Blooms

Where Dead Wood Blooms is a mixed-media animation inspired by the Chinese idiom “枯木逢春,” reflecting a journey from emotional desolation to renewal. The work follows a solitary figure moving through a barren landscape, where she encounters a withered tree that mirrors her inner state. Upon touching it, the lifeless form dissolves, and the world gradually transforms into spring.

The piece combines stop-motion with tactile materials—sand as ground, coffee beans as landscape, and paint-on-glass for moments of translating an internal emotional shift into a physical, visual experience.
